Hi! I’m Jody,
an actor/singer/yoga-instructor/dog-mom/toddler-mom/crafty-gal making hand-poured natural soy candles with love in my Hudson Valley kitchen.

about my candles
There’s something magical about how the simple act of lighting a candle can transform a space: suddenly it's warmer, more special, more like home. That small effort takes intention, which in turn takes care. Thus, to me, a lit candle is an expression of love.
I am proud to offer carefully hand-poured candles that burn evenly and cleanly, and smell wonderful without being overpowering. I am partial to scents that are fresh and earthy - nothing too floral or sweet - and I don't make any candle that I wouldn't enjoy burning myself!
why “just” candles
As I thought extensively about what to name this little business, I kept returning to the idea of simplicity. After all, I am just one woman making small batches of candles in my kitchen. But that’s not the only reason the name "just candles" felt right...
The word "just" is also defined as "based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair." I am increasingly aware of the inequities in our society, and am compelled to do what I can to tip the scales of justice towards balance. Thus, a percentage of all "just candles" sales will be donated to social justice organizations including (but by no means limited to): The ACLU, The Loveland Foundation, Color of Change, The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Trevor Project, and The Innocence Project. I am always open to suggestions, and you are welcome to earmark an organization of your choice to which I should donate a portion of your candle sale!
